BIOGRAPHY OF THAT BAND MEMBER!
The Gooseneck String Band was formed in the
fall of 2004. The initial members were Larry
Gattis (banjo, guitar, vocals), Gabe Gattis (guitar),
and Bill Slade (washtub bass), Yes, a washtub bass.
They had so much fun, they decided to expand and asked
Freddy Hogg and Jimmy Howard (dobro
and vocals) to join them. At this time Bill
decided it was time to actually purchase a real bass.
Little did Larry know, none of the musicians in his band
could actually play more than three chords except for
his son Gabe, who was taking lessons. So
after many hours of patient and diligent practice The
Gooseneck String Band began to emerge. All
the members of the band are also members of First
Baptist Church, Hawkinsville, Georgia with the exception
of Freddy Hogg who is pastor at Pinehurst Baptist
Church, Pinehurst, Georgia.
Through a shared love of bluegrass and gospel, the band
began to form it's sound.
Larry Gattis introduced the band to some of his
original works and started writing more songs.
He began writing music while in college, one of which
was "Lavendar Mountain". "Little Sisters" was
inspired by two graves he came across while backpacking
in the Smokey Mountains. "Mr. Rewis" is
actually a barber who had a shop in Hawkinsville and "49
Fastback Caddy" springs from childhood memories.
After practicing and performing together for a year,
the band decided it was time to put together a
recording. Through these many hours of
practice, performance, and prayer a CD was recorded.
We would foremost like to thank our Lord for giving
us the talent and tenacity to form this band, our
families for their support and sacrifice, and our
friends for the encouragement that keeps us going.
Anita Gattis
has videotaped many performances, which helps us fine
tune and critique ourselves. Our families,
our biggest fans, have been there to listen and cheer us
on. What a great time we're having! We
hope you enjoy our music.
