Larry grew up around bluegrass and Gospel music in north Georgia.  His grandmother “Clyde” played guitar, banjo and harmonica.  His mother could often be heard singing hymns around the home place.  He learned guitar in high school and began playing banjo in  medical school at UGA.  His band, “The Country Doctors”, played in venues around Augusta for three years.  He took time off from music for his medical until 2003 when he began playing in a church group in Hawkinsville GA.  His son, Gabe became interested in bluegrass and they began playing as a duo in church functions.  The Gooseneck String Band formed from that beginning.  Larry lives in the Gooseneck  area of Hawkinsville (hence the name) with his wife of seventeen years, Anita, and Gabe.  He likes to run daily, gardens,  and practices geriatrics at his office in Hawkinsville.

Larry writes many of the songs for the group, acts as “owner/operator”, and arranges the songs with help from the other members.  He only played until 2004, when by a curious turn of fate a case of vocal cord nodules actually gave him a singing voice.  Now he does harmony and solo work as well as guitar and banjo parts.
